Dr. Abdul Karim Sandeelo

Dr. Abdul Karim Sandeelo (Sindhi: ڊاڪٽر عبدالڪريم سنديلو‎) was born on April 6, 1919, in the village of Mehrab Khan Sandeelo, located in Dokri Taluka, Larkana District. He was a highly respected educator and a prominent authority on Sindh’s folk literature and linguistics. Over his lifetime, he authored around 25 books covering Sindhi folk literature, language, and cultural heritage. Dr. Sandeelo passed away on January 2, 1990, in Larkana, Sindh.

Education

Dr. Sandeelo earned his Master of Arts (MA) in Sindhi from the University of Sindh. His doctoral thesis, Lok Adab Jo Tahkeeki Jaizo (Sindhi: لوڪ ادب جو تحقيقي جائزو‎), was published by the Institute of Sindhology in 1986.

Professional Life

Dr. Sandeelo began his career as a primary school teacher, advancing to junior school teacher, lecturer, and eventually retiring as a principal in 1979. He was also actively involved with the Sindhi Adabi Board and other literary committees.

Literary

In addition to regularly contributing articles to newspapers and magazines, Dr. Sandeelo published numerous books and made significant contributions to the fields of folk literature, linguistics, and language. He was a student of Jala Khati in Lahori Muhallah, Larkana, where he learned techniques for solving folk riddles. His work remains highly regarded in literary circles.

Awards

For his distinguished services, Dr. Sandeelo received numerous awards and medals. He was honored with the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz by the Government of Pakistan and was appointed a member of Majlis-e-Shura in 1984.

Among his notable works are Ilm Badih (Linguistics, 1951), Sindh jo Seenghar (Sindhi: سنڌ جو سينگار‎) (Folk Literature, 1956), Tahkeek ul Lughat Sindhi (Linguistics, 1955), Weenjhar (Folk Literature, 1950), Rahbar Deewan Gul (Poetry, 1957), and Pahakan Ji Paar (Linguistics, 1966), among others.
